Shade house covered in ice ... we had 12 hours below freezing but just barely 30/31 lots of ice, by local standards ... it will be later inbthe week before damage really starts to show.... and on my bizmarks it will be spring to see if the inner crown got hurt. new leaves will have holes across them

    I wouldn't worry about the Bizzies.  They can take 20s and heavy frost fine.

    I agree. Bizzies are the least of your worries. Did the shade house block frost/ice from the plants inside?

    Some did ok some didnt ... its all mostly superficial damage we tarped a lot of stuff as well .... the water that freezes inside the crown of the bizmarcks is what causes problems here

    About half of the live oaks are burnt up here and every Mexican Oak planted around town is completely fried.

    I also lost a lot of crotons , some may come back but the majority of them are junked

    Even laid down and tarped we still got some burn .... nothing fatal but it will be after march and a stiff haircut before we are back to looking like we should

    I am so sorry about all the damage. I too hate cold which was the reason I left VA for PR.

    Some vazquezii is really hardy while some burns easily.  A few plants i have suffer zero burn until low 20s.

    These are in fifteen gallons but at one time were all one single enormous clump, its a male, came apart when we dug it up, I bought it in the ground at an estate sale .... one of the chunks is planted next to the females we have for seed production
