In my humble opinion, the San Francisco Bay area is one of the most beautiful regions in the world.  Here is a brief photo journal.

Really good pictures, Ray.   :)

An incredible city AND one of the most unique palm growing climates in all of North America, truly a "Lord Howe Island" in our own backyard.

Great photos! I am in San Francisco (Marin County) right now visiting some friends, so hopefully can add some follow up pics. Did you make it to the Golden Gate Park or Oakland Palmetum? I really wish i could go to those but I don't think i'll have time

I'm always up for learning new things!

Ray!

The pictures rock!

I went to Sam Frank's Disco back in 2000, and we didn't have a digicam.

Gonna have to go again.

LOVE the picures of general stuff.  ESPECIALLY that picture of the sunset from Lombard Street . . .

Keep 'em coming, and a palm pic or two won't hurt . . .

Lovely town, Ray...we are delighted with your pictures.

Last year, in Darold Petty's perfect company we had a chance to see some of the nicest palms.

Great phots Gileno.

Kyle, I drove though GGP slowly but didn't have time to stop.  I'd love to spend an entire day walking that park one day.

Fantastic photos Ray!  I have a good friend that spends at least 4 months a year working in San Francisco and she keeps bugging me to come visit.  After seeing those pictures, I'm definitely going!  Thanks for posting them.

Looks like you had a great time. I take it you are back in Tampa now? Did you make it out to Walnut Creek and the rest of the east bay?

Those are great photos Ray.  They are calender quality and certainly capture the high spots and the "essence" of the San Francisco Bay area. You sure covered a lot of territory on your visit. A lot of pictures were taken at the IPS board luncheon at my place in Walnut Creek on May 12th. I'm not quite sure where they should be posted, here, or maybe in a new thread?

Gileno, your pics are very nice too. If you had Darold Petty as a guide on your visit, I'm sure he knows every important palm in San Francisco. He's coming over today to visit, and I'll ask him where that tall Jubaea is located on the sloap.  I haven't seen it before. There are only a handfull of Jubaeas growing in San Francisco. Thanks again for the nice photos, guys.

Thanks Dick, and sorry Ray for jumping into your thread. I guess we both share the admiration for this town.

Please send Darold my best regards and tell him I'm looking forward to his visit in Brazil. Besides that one, I've seen beautiful grown up Jubaeas also at the Strybing Arboretum (Golden Gate park, below) and at the Sunnyside conservatory. I've heard that they are slow growers in early stages (I have a small seedling here myself) but, doing so well in your climate, I wonder why they're not seen more often around...

I believe this is the same palm. Sorry for the horribly poor quality, it was taken with one of them antique cell phones.
