As you can see on older posts, I loved the old palm in Peradeniya gardens, a more than 100 years old plant which died this year.

I am glad Samarakoon got seeds and prepared seedlings, of which I got some plants.

We planted the first of them this august:

Philippe,

As you know, that's going to be a very impressive palm, and since you have seen a mature specimen, you know what to expect! :mrlooney: Based on the very large specimens I have seen in Singapore Botanic Gardens I'm guessing this palms needs lots of water, but you probably already knew that! Good luck with it. :greenthumb:

Yes Bo-Göran,

Puwakwatta being Areca catechu garden where these Areca are growing very fast , I think the conditions will be ok for Oncosperma.

BTW, maybe you remember the old Oncosperma in Peradeniya ?
It died .... That picture belong to the past:

But we got descendants from that palm , thanks to Samarakoon.

Sad when a palm dies but allways nice to have a second generation of palms and Samarakoon certainly has lots of little palm babies! :)

It seems that palm enjoys his new place.

As Bo-Göran mentioned, thornes are also there !

As Cindy would notice, we also have weeds !

Bo-Göran,

I'll be buried in the garden years before that poor young Oncosperma becomes a mature specimen.:D

The specimen I loved in Peradeniya reached more than 100 years !

Actually If you're not afraid by ghosts, many ancestors of Kasun are already buried there, including his father last year.
But people in the village don't build any grave or show where it is.

So we are very careful when we plant a palm. But Kasun knows the places ...
