I recommend you try it out

this company makes some interesting products. they have on their web page good tutorials on identifying palm nutritional deficiencies and how to secure a remedy. I have not used their products, but have certainly used the educational materials. i am a believer in soil testing done by a real lab, and responding to the deficiencies accordingly. the down side is the fees charged for the analysis.     https://www.harrells.com/education

Due to my property size of 5 acres I buy fertilizer by the ton (a pallet). We have been using Diamond R palm special but a good friend has been a fan of Harrells since he was in the golf course service field. I gave them a call and the rep brought over a bag and we are pleased with the results. I will be switching to Harrells when I need to reload,

Florikan s Nutricote works great where I'm at in East Central florida. Anything polymer coated is good.

i live in the uk so need something from the uk

I also use florikan nutricote, i think its an ethylene vinyl acetate polymer coating on the prills.  the delivery is by osmosis and osmosis is halted under 60(?) degrees or so.  Because its an osmosis delivery product, it cannot wash away(be depleted by hard rain).  One application is good for 6 months.

It is EXCELLENT fertilizer.   But be careful in the application.  It is not an organic nor slow release. I burned 2 palms severely this Spring.

One Teddy Bear is pushing a spear now and looks like it may recover.

Half of a double Ptychosperma is fried and probably a goner. I am VERY bummed about losing it.

Recently I got fertigation up and running so now I have had to switch from Palm Gain.

In clay soils or high cation exchange capacity(CEC) soils, you can get away with cheaper fertilizer that will "hang around" in the soil.  Sandy soils are another matter, very low CEC, it'll just wash away and you end up with lots of spiking in the soil nutrients from additions and rain.  then there is the burn aspect from trying to replace what rinses(how much?).  With osmotic delivery, you cannot burn a palm as the nutrient delivery slows as soil concentration of fertilizer increases.  The speed of growth with consistent levels of nutrients is as good as it gets, and cheap fertilizer wont do that in sandy soil.  But if I were growing in heavier soil with high CEC, I could use a cheaper fertilizer and get similar results.  I am at the point where I'm getting more growth than I want, things are getting too tall.  The great thing about a 10' overall palm is you can see into the crown.  When you start looking up at the palm the coloration will be different.  When most of the light is transmitted through, vs reflected off leaflets, the color to the observer becomes more "green" less blue/silver on the silver/blue/white species.

I tried Palm Gain, Apex Palm Plus, Growmore Palm Special, and Nutricote 18-6-8. I like them all, but I prefer the slow release Nutricote 18-6-8 for for both the palms and cycads.

Please be careful with Palm Gain! Do not use it at full-strength with potted palms, at least. I fried my mapu and Phoenicophorium borsigianum seedlings using it at suggest strength  My planted palms had no issue with it at full strength. Going forward, I will play it safe using Nutricote/Dynamite.

Can anyone share the benefits of using Palm Gain over Nutricote?

I see no advantage except that nutricote takes 3-4 weeks to get going and lasts 6 months.  I suspect palm gain(4-6 week fertilizer) will get you a shot of nutrients right away.  Remarkably they are pretty close in price( both about $70 for a 50 lb bag).  You can use nitricote on newly planted palms( it takes 3-4 weeks to start delivering targeted amounts of nutrients) and on potted palms.

Sounds like a great plan to me! Thank you! :greenthumb::greenthumb::greenthumb:
