I told Wal I was gonna pot up a bunch of palms this weekend...  I woke up Saturday morning and decided against labor.  Instead I hopped into the truck and drove down to Fairchild Tropical Gardens.  I won't bore with detials from my day but here's a bunch of the photos I took...

Ok boys and girls, that's it for today...  That's about half of the photos...  I will upload and post all the A - C palms tomorrow...  I took lots of pics of the Coccothrinax and the Copernicia...  Stay tuned!

William, Thank you for the great shots! Any possibility of some of those incredible Copernicia Bailyiana in the next batch?

What you look for is what is looking

If that's a Dypsis pembana, I'll be a monkeys uncle.

Nephew Marty Marmoset, please don't post.

Happy Gardening

Cheers,

William, I also wanted to know how old the specimens of Licuala Grandis are in your or any other persons opinion. I bought my Licuala at Fairchild five years ago and it is only 2 to 3 feet tall.I never see pictures in any palm books that show the incredible trunking of these Fairchild specimens.

What you look for is what is looking

Wal, I thought the exact same thing, but the metal tag was shoved in the bush...  perhaps it was simply mislabeled!  Looks like a licuala sp. to me...

Bubba, I'm certainly no expert, but if I had to take a guess I would say anywhere from 30-40 years old!

Thanks guy, glad your enjoying them...  This trip was the first time I had a better appreciation for these plants.  My palm knowledge has been increasing from hanging out on the board, and my skills have been increasing... foamykungfu_by_dead_inside13.gif  So I was actually able to identify most of the palms before reading the tags!!  It really is a special place, I won't spoil the history of the garden in case you decide to visit one day, but I highly recommend that any palm-head plan a trip if at all possible!  And yeah Paul, I have a couple freinds that don't even recognize my name, they just call me "Willem."  Anyhow ladies and gents, let the show go on!

Coccothrinaxmiraguamassphavanensis.jpg

I saw this one for the first time and now I can't wait to get my hands on one!  The woven fiber on the crownshaft was so soft to touch, very deifferent from most of the other very coarse fibers on Caribbean palms.
