Matlacha and Pine Island Palm pics

For the first part of my vacation I stayed on Matlacha and went to Pine Island frequently.  Our rented cottage had only 2 palms, a coconut and an old washingtonia around 60ft. The dominant palm in the area is would be coconuts and royals.  suprisingly I saw few queens on Pine Island and even less on matlacha.  Here are some of the palms on Matlacha.

The first coconuts I saw from the Ft Myers airport. These were in northern ft myers

Possibly one of the healthiest coconuts on the island.

On pine island we went t bokeelia and saw some of the tallest coconuts that area had to offer.  Any 1989 survivors here?

Some coconuts on pine island being grown probably for landscaping.20170408_153059.thumb.jpg.a0482d2184140e

we left today for a friends house in Englewood.  Landscape is a lot different here with the queen palms and Miniature date palms being most popular here.  Still some coconuts are in the area and they look fine.

Good pictures, it is so nice to live in this area!

Lived in Cape Coral, Miami, Orlando and St. Petersburg Florida.

Great photos. I worked for 17 years at a wildlife preserve on Little Pine Island, went to the P.O. in Matlacha for mail every weekday, then walked in Matlacha Park. Matlacha used to be more of a fishing village known for $2,000 trailer homes on $200,000 waterfront lots. Developers bought up the scruffy trailer parks, evicted the tenants so nowadays Matlacha boasts itself an art mecca. Traffic is appalling and I miss all the grizzled fisherfolk in their "Pine Island Reboks" (white plastic boots). Progress.

Englewood, except for occasional warm microclimates, is much colder in winter than Pine Island or Cape Coral hence the change in palm plantings.
