Mauricio, the pictures of the palms of this region, both habitat and the Inst. Plantarum (which I visited in 2010) are highly interesting and beautifully done, thank you. The Chelyocarpus chuco was especially interesting, as I just planted out two of them that have grown large in two-gal pots.

Thanks for sharing these photos of some of the dwarf Syagrus.  A year ago I visited Harri Lorenzi's PLANTARUM (Botanical Garden) in Nova Odessa, SP, Brasil.  The dwarf Syagrus microphylla is my favorite one.  Here is a pic I took of it there. The small seedling is one I grew from seed and is now planted in my garden.

Hawaii Island (Big Island), leeward coast, 19 degrees N. latitude, south Kona mauka at approx. 380m (1,250 ft.) and about 1.6 km (1-mile) upslope from ocean.

No record of a hurricane passing over this island (yet!).

Summer maximum rainfall - variable averaging 900-1150mm (35-45") - Perfect drainage on black volcanic rocky soil.

Nice sunsets!
