Franken Brahea - before and after

Featured Replies

Some of you got a few seeds of the Franken Brahea, which is, I think a hybird between B. armata and brandeegii.

The first picture shows it back in 2009, when it was starting to grow a bit, after being planted in 2006 or thereabouts.

Palmazon stands on the stump of the felled Washie discussed in another thread.

Here it is recently, flowers, seeds. The Shoe by the trunk.

I had no idea it would get that big that fast.

I've got to say, this palm is pretty spectacular in person. It has a really unique color to it that's really hard to describe - like a frosty, sea green. I'm excited to have some of it's offspring in my garden!

Wow thats a fast and fantastic looking Brahea:greenthumb:

Carambeí, 2nd tableland of the State Paraná , south Brazil.

Alt:1030m. Native palms: Queen, B. eriospatha, B. microspadix, Allagoptera leucocalyx , A.campestris, Geonoma schottiana, Trithrinax acanthocoma. Subtr. climate, some frosty nights. No dry season. August: driest month. Rain:1700mm

I have a forest of Frankenbrahea seedlings coming up. I need to uproot and pot them up - get those puppies into the local plant exchanges in Fresno for the spring.

January photo of one of mine after the snow melted.  Coming along nicely.

How cold hardy does anyone speculate this palm can take, anyone had it see below 20oF? Any damage or spear pull?

@DoomsDave any idea when more seeds or sprouts of this one might be available? Or your Radicalis? After it warms up I've already got some sales pending so I can actually send you a shipping label this time. And I dunno if I've got anything you'd want to try at the Death Camp but you're def on the list of people I owe favors to.
