Dypsis Decaryi seed brack stalled

Featured Replies

My Dypsis Decaryi threw a large brack of seeds three months ago and seems to have stalled in it's development. The brack is neither growing nor shrinking in size, that I can tell. The seeds don't seem to be changing size nor color either.

The palm itself is growing like mad. It has 10 fronds in development simultaneously.

Th whole plant stands about 6 meters tall and is in a 250 Liter tub which it has been inhabiting for some 6 years. It shares the tub with a colony of alpinia zerumbet variegata (Ornamental ginger).

Is this normal behavior? This is the first time that it has thrown a brack of seeds, so I don't know what is normal for it in that condition and I am not a palm guru.

Thanks

I am not certain what you mean by the whole situation... Are you referring to more photos of the container in which the palm resides? or are you asking for a tour of my roof top garden?

If the latter, see http://Selva.Cabal.mx and watch the 5 videos.

Richard!

Welcome to Palm Talk!

You have a helluva garden there, amigo!

That D. decaryi is just getting started with the inflorescence. Looks like the little flowers haven't opened yet. When they do, it will look a bit fuzzy and the bees will buzz all around it.

After a while, the seeds will grow, often very fast. Other Dypsis I have set seed in a two or three months from flowering. Others take longer.

Keep us apprized and share the wonder.

The seeds are easy to sprout; I've got a couple hundred I got from a big one in the parking lot of an eatery.
