Online palm stores and shipping to Toronto, Canada

Hi everyone,

I am a novice palm enthusiast and have pleasantly stumbled on this blog which has been keeping me busy for quite some time. I wanted to know what online shops you guys recommend who are able to ship to Canada for a reasonable price without much customs hassle. I understand there aren't many Canadians nor Canadian shops on these boards but just wanted to get a good list going.

Thank you kindly.

If you are interested in palms for pot culture (likely your only choice in Toronto) Floribunda has excellent young palms at very reasonable prices. His minimum order outside the US is $300 + shipping & handling. There are several US palm growers on PalmTalk but I don't know if any of them ship to Canada. You could also look into obtaining seeds of species you are interested in. I've found some palms on eBay but I'm not pushing you in that direction. The important thing is to do your own due diligence through independent research. There are on-line sellers who sell common palms for astronomical prices and are just rip-off artists. How they continue to get away with it I don't know but they do.  So, don't be suckered into buying a Washingtonia seedling or the like for $100. Educating yourself should be half the fun.

I believe there is a guy in Montreal who grows palms outdoors and builds huge heated shelters to protect them over winter. He's posted tutorials on You Tube. Check him out.

Welcome to PalmTalk.

Hi PalmatierMeg,

Thank you for the useful information and welcoming me to the forum. I have found the Montreal guy on youtube and will email him. Regarding sellers on PalmTalk, is there a list of them? Do they post often in the forums? Is there a separate forum section for them to advertise? I will continue to do my own research of course.

I should mention that I have ordered palms from http://www.xlbpalmtrees.com/ (located near Toronto with a nursery in Florida) but have not yet received them, I will review the service once it's complete however the owner Darryl has been very useful and quick to respond thus far.

Would echo Meg.  Give Jeff Marcus at Floribunda in Hawaii a call.  He's got great quality stuff.  But hurry up and order before winter arrives! :)
