Hello everyone,

As mentioned in another thread, I got a flowering coconut and since the inflorescence happens on a knee-high level

I am able to follow the process very closely (for the first time actually) and I thought to put some photos here.

I am usually keeping an eye on Pal`s threads about flowering/germination and his explanations but there is still

much left to be studied. So, if anyone would like to comment "what we see", please go ahead!

Ok, here we go:

Here, in 2011, while still potted on the veranda of our appartment. (on the left)

Almost exactly one year later - right after putting her into the ground - in Oct. 2012.

Again one year later, in July 2013, slowly starting to push longer leaves while getting used to its new home.

In June 2015, making process. It was a good summer with a lot of rainy and sunny days.

In Oct., same year, the first signs of a trunk...

In August, this year, it has a developed into a beauty! I didn`t see it firsthand, but somehow I felt urged to check the tree closer -

while in truth looking for damages caused by bugs - I almost felt over when I saw this...

007-aug-16.thumb.JPG.903eda0893de7ff487b

It started to flower!

A week later...

008-aug-16.thumb.JPG.c98e4c2660631c7ed0b

...it popped open.

Finally, photos taken today...

..and more detailed...

Ok, that`s where we are now - and I am really really glad to have that happened right in front

of my house!

Thank you for your time - any explanations/comments/hints are welcome -

updates are promised!

best regards

Great looking coconut palm. I wish I could grow one here. It's always exciting to see flowers especially when they start producing a delicious fruit like coconut. Thanks for sharing

Hello there,

just a short update about the flowering process with two, three photos...

006x.thumb.jpg.5d45a8dfdb4f4357781ee91ac

My beautiful c.nucifera - four spadix` have already popped open while new ones are still emerging -...

007x.thumb.jpg.161addae2c0809dc8698da25a

here you can see many opened male flowers - started to open from the top while...

008x.thumb.jpg.8f4c082e5e32f948e28d23a06

now the most of all female flowers at the bottom have opened as well.

Comparing to its first flowering last October - when there were (almost) no female flowers at all

(which seems to be normal) - it looks now very promising since the number of female flowers

has increased significantly (roughly counted they are 50 or more, it would be great if some of

them will turn into coconuts...)

All right then, that`s it for the moment as a short update - I will keep you posted,

thank you for your time again,

best regards

Lars
