Pseudophoenix sargentii flowering

Featured Replies

While taking photos in my garden, I noticed my largest Pseudophoenix sargentii is flowering for the first time and I'm stoked about that. I planted it, a smaller companion and 3 P. vinifera in a 16' square box in 2011 after I bought the 3-lot site.

Wow. That is awesome. Being one of the slowest palms on the planet that palm probably started out as a seed in the early 1980's???

Tyrone, not as slow as many people think. I got it as a small seedling a couple years earlier. I'd say its 10 years old or less. My P. vinifera seem to grow at the same rate but have not flowered yet.  P. ekmanii, on the other hand, is excruciatingly slow. I'd like to see mine trunk before I die.

Thanks, Randy. Maybe it will decorate my yard with red seeds for Christmas.
