I decide to drive out to visit my buddy who lives in down town palm springs last week. Bad timing on my part with a major heat wave foretasted for my trip with temps hitting 120F. Anyways it was a really great time. I met up with Danny from palm talk who lives in Coachella valley later in the day. Danny was nice enough to take us on an afternoon PRA tour to a few different gardens he has discovered since he has been bitten by the palm bug. We drove by and saw lots of HUGE royals, Bizzy's brahea, ETC that look perfect along with a bunch of really nice copernicia's that look flawless.

enjoy the pictures below

Thanks for being such a great host that day Danny. :)

IMG_6199.JPG.6fa0b06593f60b7385cc2e131b0we decided to drive over to see the the legendary desert garden of Alan Valley. Alan was not home but we were able to see some of what he had growing in the front yard and street area. Danny and I posing with a massive copernicia hospita blue. This garden is was mind blowing even just from the street view! Top left is a HUGE livistona alfredii that is very yellow.

After we left Alan's wonderful garden viewed from the street Danny took us to see what is now arguably the largest coconut growing in California.

This palm resides at the house of Mr. Greg who lives in palm desert. Greg was so kind to open his house up to a PSSC tour a few months ago. Since I missed the tour I was able to go see it myself in person.

Sounds like a great day! I've done similar tours in our region and it's always great to see other growers gardens. 120°F is punishing for many plants and palms. The ones you all saw that day (date palms for sure) take it all in stride.

Cheers, Barrie.

Great PRA!

Props to Mr. Greg for entertaining more Palm PilgrimsTM to new holy site in Palm Desert. :greenthumb:

Mega Props to Mr. Lopez for creating what will be a new Holy Site of his own! :greenthumb::greenthumb:

The best part is: I'm seeing it from the Dark Tower, which is air conditioned up the wazoo.

First time I went to Palm Springs in 1985, it was 120+ and the AC in the car wasn't even close to the job.
