Sabal Collection North Florida 9a

Featured Replies

Thought I would start a thread on the Sabals I'm growing here. They are mostly smaller with a couple of larger ones. Hard to get clear pictures so sorry aboUT that.... The first two are:

Sabal bermundana ( been great grower for me) really like the look of the split leaf.

Sabal 'riverside' (this one has a bluish coloration) didn't know if that is normal for this cultivar

Awesome! These are all on my list to try. I currently have some Sabal lisa and a Sabal miamiensis that have just sprouted and hope to try them in ground here.

Interesting spoon like form on lisa!

Larry Shone in wet and sunny north-east England!  Zone9 ish

Tie two fish together and though they have two tails they cannot swim <>< ><>

Really nice collection you have.  Have you considered S. yapa or mauritiiformis, or is low  temperature a consideration where you live for those two?

Sabal is a favorite of mine, but a confounding genus when it comes to ID-ing them...when you ask 4 experts a Sabal ID question you're liable to get 5 different answers.:D

Zone 10b, life in the subs!...except when it isn't....

Hope this isn't a total threadjack.

I'm about 100 miles away. Not quite as warm, but that hasn't mattered the last few winters.

Sabal etonia, reportedly from a seed from a population in southern FL that develops some trunk. This one gets shade from an evergreen oak but doesn't seem stretched.

Sabal 'Lisa'. This hedge is maintained at about 4 feet tall so it has to grow out of that. Otherwise the location is full sun.

Hi-jack....I would expect nothing less from the notorious pirate Redbeard! Seems all of these do pretty well up here.

Rusty...yep too cold up here in the north...remember that's why you kept on driving when you went through our area those many years ago....... to reach the promosed botanic wonderland of Pine Island.

Will do. I was thinking I need to add some decoras out there. The nitidas probably aren't getting hit by a sprinkler. I don't think I'll be there until mid-August though. I'd love to see your place.
