Got an itch so I roared on down to Palm Island in Fountain Valley to check it out.

It, and Mile Square Park in which it's located are much the worse for wear, I'm afraid.

    The park has not been watered much, if at all because of the drought. The palms, too it appears.

    We'll have a chance to see what fared well, and what didn't.

    Raphia's love water and require a lot to look healthy. Where this one is planted, it will never be happy. It's too bad who ever planted it, should of know this and maybe put it at the waters edge.

    Originally, the whole park, including Palm Island, got plenty of water if needed. When it rained, sprinklers were shut off; when it didn't everyone got a drink. Alas, no more.

    They just don't like the mess picnickers leave. I've observed it first-hand, alas.

    Some of the palms are indeed holding up well. There were others like Hyophorbes that are just gone.

    Our drought has been really tough. That bit of rain we had up north helped, but not enough.

    Praying for another rainy season this coming year. Maybe it'll even rain on election day . . . .
