Foster Botanical Garden on Oahu is really nice.  They have lots of interesting palms and some 100+ year old cycads that are amazing.

If you are going to the Big Island then you must visit the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden, just north of Hilo, it's amazing :D

If you come to Oahu, Lyon arboretum is a great visit. If you want to see Pritchardia bakeri in habitat, I would be happy to take you, but it is not an easy hike. Pictures are located in palmpedia.  aloha

Thanks Colin. Yes we plan to go to Lyon arboretum, we heard it is good. Not sure about the hike to see pritchardia bakeri , the worn out old knees may not handle the hike. Will check out photos on palmpedia.

Also visit Ho'omaluhia Botanical Garden on Kaneohe side, Oahu.  Spectacular setting with the Koolau mtns right behind the garden, lotsa droolworthy wet climate palms.  Plus never crowded.

I agree with Dave, Ho'omaluhia on Oahu is in such a spectacular setting. Palms and other tropicals surrounded by misty green razor sharp mountains.

See you in Hilo!

Ho'omaluhia Botanical Gardens in O'ahu is absolutely stunning. Great walking paths that go thru a myriad of palms and tropical plants and the backdrop is out of this world. If you go to Maui, The Garden of Eden is an absolute must.

Go early to Ho'omaluhia.  They lock the gates earlier than you might think, 4pm, and if you and your vehicle are locked inside, well... inconvenient.  Briefest botanic garden visit I ever made, 15 minutes! Way too short!  You'll need at least a couple of hours.

Waimea Valley on the North Shore is nice as well; it is a large botanical garden with many palms.  I captured this palm tree there back in 2006; I think it is one of the Pritchardia species (not sure which one).
