Great shots Pando, the roots know where to go no doubt by where the sun hits its to show something is there to climb, plus, Mother nature has been around a few more million than us humans , the Rho cheesemanii is a beauty, your Billbergia Murial waterman would adore being mounted up at eye level

Thanks everyone!

I have a bunch more stuff in containers, but winter wasn't very kind to them. There's a reason for mostly closeup shots, as I'm waiting to redesign my yard (both front and back), but my available time is at a high premium right now... Hopefully in a few years it will be presentable to some degree.

I'll keep posting some interesting views as I discover them in the jungle...

Some kind of tropism but which? Can't be hydrotropism because there is water all around the plant. Not reverse photo tropism because they would simply head for the ground in a dense jungle environment.  Weird.

Some years ago I swung two of the roots over the tree (the thickest ones) to support the plant, so those are hand-placed. The trunk is 5-6 feet long so it's literally pulling itself up with those. Later on, other roots followed them on their own, and the new ones are just heading straight for it. One of the roots is actually making a 90 degree turn around the plant to make it to the tree.

Baby Foxy lady

Get ready for that Foxy Lady to take off!  Once they get established they are vigorous growers here in coastal influence So Cal, and probably a lot of other places.  Nice crisp photos once again.  The garden looks pretty nice from the photos you have posted, so I have to wonder what all the talk about redoing your garden is about?  You have established trees for your epiphytes and climbers, canopy for some beautiful understory palms, so what do you want to change?

Spray for the shoot and then wipe down with a chamois post shoot to avoid mold, that's my secret!  A little carnauba wax afterwards gives them a nice sheen too!:D

Hardscape mostly. The existing pads and walkways are sagging and lifting up. Previous owner had planted Ficus benjamina and Schefflera right next to the paths and they have been jacked up 4-5 inches -- I can put my hand underneath in places. That, and lots of soil amendments need to be added also. The soil is either too fast draining (can dry up in an hour), or a complete clay bucket in places. Neighbor has some large trees which give nice shade, but their roots suck away all the moisture. I've already planted things (like a 15g C. nucele) that I regret before fixing what should be fixed first.

The yard has lots of potential to be extremely lush; there is a high established canopy, but it's a bit of a mess right now. But I'm getting there if ever so slowly.

Thanks Tracy!
