If the new spear is coming out (without its upper part) it will be ok. The damage could be caused e.g. by too little watering, too much fert (during winter), or … :indifferent:

it seems like my foxtail was pushing out a new leaf, but the first 5 cm of the spear was almost totally white...(last picture)

and a couple of days later, the spear became black-ish and was facing down (first two pictures)

Give it a light tag, to see if it pulls. I think it is good if it pulls, because plant gets rid of a dead part and besides you will be able to see what takes place on the bottom part. Do you spray it against the borers and if yes with what?

yes i do (and i did already this season)

its a mix of confidor, ascott and two other chemicals i cannot remember right now,,,,

it certainly would be a good idea to hit it with some copper.

it wont hurt your palm and I think would be a good call to do so.

also, pour some hydrogen peroxide down the crown shaft..

Avoid copper because it may be incompatible with the prior use of those pesticides. I would STOP application of pesticides and apply into the cavity (I bet it will spear pull) only H2O2 to see if they appear bubbles and then pour in powder of aliete.

Yep, looks like necrosis in there, is the plant uptaking water? If the pot is staying damp, stop adding water and just the peroxide down the grow point..

Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

Problem is that commercial solution is to soft, about 3 to 3.5%. I would prefer 5 to 7% but you have to make your own solution with the use of a denser solution and distiled water. Extremely caution is needed because a dense solution is a strong oxidant. You will need a very good hazmat face mask and gloves.

ok! i will !!

thanks everyone

so how much H2O2 should i pour in it ?

BTW spear pull happened today...

The spear was totally white(even the part that came out of the palm to begin with (top of post)

does anyone knows why? because i think thats the reason it did rot! any deficiency ?

BTW this was the second leaf of the growing season and the first one is perfectly fine, it is not in a pot but in the ground with a PVC pipe next to it to check the ground water, and remove excess water from it, so it was almost always dry during the winter...

I strongly believe that it is a post-winter fungal or beacterial infection beacause of the applied pesticides.

@Phoenikakias i think you were right (again :P) this was the first time this happened, and i do recall using excess amount of pesticide on this one (and a bit to early for the season)

This specimen seems to have recovered quickly and is growing its second leaf (from what is remaining of it :) ) for the season

I have suffered a couple of losses due to this cause. They were rare and marginal palms for my area and therefore it took me some time to realize  what caused their demise.
