I recently noticed a flower stalk rising up from my largest mazzri palm (Nannorrhops ritchiana).

A little research show this palm is monocarpic, that is, the stalk (hopefully only the stalk) dies

after flowering.  The palm did branch last year, which is unusual, as it did so not from the base,

but 4' up.  I am hoping only that one branch will die and leave the rest of the plant unscathed.

Normally this is a very "bushy" clumping palm, but a few yrs ago (the palm is about 14-15 yrs old)

I drastically pruned all but 3 or 4 trunks.  They now look like miniature Hyphaene.  The same good

looks, but 1/4 the size!

    Not to worry. You will loose only the flowering stock.

    enjoy the spike show. They are very impressive when they flower.
