Sabal minor Blountstown Dwarf Strap Leaf Seedlings for Sale

Featured Replies

I have decided to sell most of my palm seedlings. In late Feb. my husband was diagnosed with cancer. He has started chemo and his doctors have forbidden him to hang out in crowds or touch fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, cleaning products and other chemicals. That means I have taken over all household and garden chores in addition to watching over him. Something's gotta give and most of my potted plants gotta go.

Sabal minor Blountstown Dwarf is an extreme dwarf variation of Sabal minor native to a small area near Blountstown in N. FL. It reaches 12-18" tall and 30-36" wide and has been nicknamed the "rock garden palm". I know of a palm lover in the US Midwest that has grown this tiny palm in a pot and harvested viable seeds from it. I bought my mother palm as a juvenile from a nursery in NC. The nursery germinated it from seeds sent by a source in FL and said that those seeds produced true dwarfs. In addition to diminutive size, I've noticed each palmate leaf has a spread of only 60 degrees and is flat vs costapalmate. My mother palm flowered for the first time in 2013 but did not produce viable seeds. It skipped 2014, then flowered for the second time in 2015. A tiny palm produces fewer seeds and last year's crop numbered fewer than 100 seeds. I potted them and got excellent results. I don't have time, energy or resources to grow them to full size.

I am selling them in lots of 8 one- to two-leaf seedlings, nine lots altogether for a total of 72 seedlings. Please see breakdown of costs below. At the end of this topic are photos of the seedlings for sale, the mother palm, and a sub-adult Blountstown Dwarf growing on my garden lot.

One lot of eight (8) Sabal minor Blountstown Dwarf strap leaf seedlings = $20.00 per lot of 8

Shipping in padded Flat Rate envelope = $7.50

TOTAL = $27.50

Payment via Paypal.

Seedlings will be sent without pots and with most soil removed. I wrap roots in damp orchid moss, plastic wrap and foil. Then I pad them with bubble wrap. Sabals are not root sensitive like some palms.

Shipping within continental US only. I do not have certifications to send plants outside the US. State of HI prohibits importation of Sabals.

Initially, I will limit purchase to one lot per buyer for the first day or so. If you want more than one lot, let me know up front. If I don't sell out the first couple days, I will get back to you regarding leftover lots in the order you PMd me. Shipping won't go up no matter how many lots you buy.

PM me if you are interested.

Now for the photos. Nos. 1-3 are of the 9 trays of seedlings, closer look at one tray, finally of two individual seedlings.56ec88aad088c_SabalminorBlountstowndwarf56ec88b5da929_SabalminorBlountstowndwarf56ec88bd44e24_SabalminorBlountstowndwarf

Photos 4-6 are of the mother palm in my front Caribbean Garden. She is approximately 12-14" tall and 30-32" diameter. In Photo 5 note the palmate leaf spreads only about 60 degrees.56ec896c3b079_SabalBlountstowndwarfmothe56ec897263dd8_SabalBlountstowndwarfmothe56ec897c72198_SabalBlountstowndwarfmothe

Last photo is of a sub-adult Blountstown Dwarf growing on my  Garden Lot. It came from the same NC nursery as my mother plant56ec89e4370ca_SabalBlountstownsubadulton

I'll second that!

Sounds tempting but I'll have to think about it. I know the feeling of a loved one surviving with cancer. We are going through this with my FIL. Good luck and God bless yall.

I need to move these seedlings out, so I have reduced the price to $15.00 per tray + $7.50 for shipping ($22.50 total). Other factors remain the same. Thanks for looking.
