Nannorrhops Ritchiana germinating.

Have germination of the green form after about 2 weeks in damp sphagnum in a baggie at about 103/105F. Any advice on how to care for them? I read they grow fast in heat, slow in cold. It gets in the 100s here in summer and in the 90s for a long time, so hopefully that will help. I plan on growing them in my greenhouse that gets 110+ in summer for the first 3 to 5 years before trying outdoors to speed up growth, and to keep excess moisture out.

These are super easy to germinate.  The green variety grows slower than the silver Arabica, both like full sun and will struggle with shade even when small.  The green variant will tolerate overhead watering in a greenhouse all summer long without issue.

It may be nothing, but my seedlings seem to hardly grow if they are getting light 24 hours a day, if I turn the grow lights off, they noticeably grow by the next morning. Could this be a desert adaptation?

I think most pants need darkness.

alot of peoplegrowing palms under lights use 16light /8 dark or 18/6  but zero darknessis normallybad

I guess I have to jack up the heat to get mine germinating. They're on a heat mat (baggie method) with damp starter mix. The heat mat is no where near 105°F.

What do you use to generate that 105°F temperature to initiate germination?  Cheers, Barrie.

I put the ziploc baggie on the top of a florescent light fixture toward the end. I cant say this is safe lol, but it seems to work. I have had 4 more germinate, they do seem to grow pretty slow. I have started to alternate the temps for the seeds, hot in day, cool at night, will see how this works.

I have a heat pad with several settings. I wonder if that would produce sufficient heat. It would certainly be warmer than what I'm using now.

Alternating day and night heat does usually replicate a natural rhythm. I have used that method in the past.

Cheers, Barrie.

I have to say these guys are indeed slow growers lol, maybe they will speed up when it gets 100 this summer.
