One of the sites that make me love my little piece of paradise here in Japan. I think this grove is actually some corporation's garden, keeping extra stock for hotel or boulevard landscaping. But I love coming here and gazing at it nonetheless. Location is yumigahama beach, just a few minutes' south of Shimoda.

What a serene place.  The benches are off-limits to the public, I take it?

Very nice photos! One of your tags is labeled as "Butia“, but I can only detect Ph. canariensis

There I go again, Pal, writing before thinking. Dave was correct, identifying the CIPDs in the background, not Butias (which are plentiful on many other beaches and gardens all around here).

You're right, Kim, there's a little sign in front of the bench (out of shot) saying "private property, do not enter" but it's a public beach, so I don't feel any qualms about sitting and musing, for a few minutes anyway. No harm, no foul.
