Hydriastele juvenile in Licuala garden

Featured Replies

A seedling we planted one year ago, seems to feel good.

I don't remember if  'Obi' or not 'Obi', that is the question...

Not sure if that is the "Obi Island form". Hydriastele beguinii may be the correct Latin name. Formerly known as Siphokentia beguinii. What I have growing as Hydriastele beguinii (also a juvenile) looks pretty much the same as the palm in the photo.

Randy ( Palmisland ) is familiar with the " Obi" form so he would be a good candidate to render an opinion.

Boy, sure looks like 'Obi' although I think there is a H. beguinii with entire leaves. I said 'think.'

Mine were acquired as "Obi's' and the newer leaves are starting to split. Beautiful palms and I've really

enjoyed them in my garden.
