Inspired by what we saw in Gardens by the Bay ( Singapore), we planted 2 Satakentia liukiuensis, hoping to see a double soon.

Full sun is maybe too much for these babies, we'll see.

Is that to much distance between these two palms (30 cm) ?

In their habitats in Iriomote and Ishigaki Satakentia seedlings grow only in sun protected places (pic 1). And the distance between adult plants is also everywhere much more than 30 cm (pic 2). The trees can grow up to almost 30 m (pic 3).

Neat pictures! The habitat pics are awesome.

Phillipe, I think that distance looks about right if you want it to look like the double in your first post.

Here's a picture of my little one that I got from Ken Johnson 2 years ago as a small seedling. It's grown pretty steadily.

Keith,

It seems we have the same size seedlings, looking forward to seeing how they grow.

Pal Meir,

many thanks for the interesting pictures, it's always good to learn from pictures of the real habitat of the species

No doubt yours will far outpace mine with your year-round growing season. :)

This Satakentia (on Iriomote island) is 7 years old (the non-Ryûkyûan human being on the right is 184 cm tall [without shoes]): ;)
