Cold air drainage and Abq's "Box"

With cooler Fall-like weather moving in and the growing season coming to a close I thought I would share a video form the Weather Channel explaining a local weather phenomenon known as the "Albuquerque Box".  This phenomenon is related to cold air drainage in a valley setting during colder mornings which in turn effect air currents/movements.

The local balloon fiesta wrapped up last weekend with near perfect weather for balloon launches...  this video gives a visual representation of how colder and warmer air moves around during the colder times of the year.  At any rate... What is interesting to me is how low a cold air pocket is to the ground..and how the balloons help make it visible.
