Jon...the one in the photo just flowered, orphaning about 1,500 bulbils. I will grow them on until they show their variegation, then cull out the oddly variegated ones for propagation. They are somewhat uncommon, but not rare.

Wow. Steve, Matsumoto is AKA Cornelius, among other names. I have that patoni, bought it as Agave parryi 'Cream Spike' from Plant Delights, and its possibly not even a parryi if I understand correctly. I'll share some pics of some variegated Agave montana and a few pics of A gentryi 'La Pena Colada' my personal introduction. First, my gentryi.

Variegated bottle is rare, not often to see, variegated lipstick is uncommon but found easier. Cause they have suckering and my lipstick in post#1 also having  :) . All above pictures you can purchase in Thailand  :) . If you remember last year I've post topic for plant market in thailand. There have serveral variegated selling, including palms just as Cocos, Lipstick and others. see more http://palmtalk.org/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboar...=ST;f=12;t=2316

Wow that variagated Phoenix canariensis is beautiful! I would guess that if it could be propagated it would be in great demand as P. canariensis is already deservedly so popular in its usual green form.

But how would one propagate it? Would tissue culture/micropropagation be the only solution as the seedlings lack chlorophyll entirely?

I especially liked the Cyrtostachys, Steve's Agave attenuata and the "Agave ?" of Komkrit's post #5. It is nice to see different colour patterns in different Bismarckia. It is going to be great to compare them as they grow.

I am glad you all enjoy my pictures of la palmera variegata . I have no idea about how to propagate it. It is not the only one in the world. There is at least another one, on another island of the Canaries, but I have not seen it yet.

It is a fascinating plant indeed but I don't find it too beautiful. Yellow segments burn and the tree is quite weak even if it has the best growing conditions, compare it to the lush green Phoenix canariensis of my avatar.

Looking closer at it I can see the burnt leaflets so maybe it is not so beautiful close up. It has more yellow foliage than green, it is quite an extreme example of variegation, so I guess it is not photosynthesising nearly as much as a normal specimen, so no doubt it is weak. Still a very special tree though by any measure.

Steve- thats not the one to core. There is one with regular variegation that I have not seen, but Nick at Pan Global Plants sent me the picture of and it is stunning. I'll try to find that, I hope its still in my inbox of email.
