I see, I know perth has a lot of palm garden/sales place like coast road palm which sell sabal palmetto, chambeyronia etc

Also I find a lot of bismarkia nobilis flower at the moment in the parks

These days, the Palm and Cycad Society put on a show once a year and a few members nights, public demand isn't there for the society to be successful, it wouldn't surprise me if it disappears soon.

I'm not a big fan of Coast Road Palms, you can find a bargain or two from their neglected stock, I prefer, Palms Galore, Premier Palms and Wattleup Nursery is worth a try.

Are you visiting or living?

I used to be a member. Very few PACSOWA members even know about this forum.

I live 400 kms away. So no.

I'm not a member anyway, so if I turned up it would raise a few eyebrows.

I haven't been to Gascoyne Park in years.

There's some nice Brahea Armata at Gascoyne Park

Nice Roystonea too.

There was a nice B armata at that palm park in Canning Vale with the lake and bamboo.

I saw many male bismarkia flowering at the moment in ruth or gascoyne

Yes, there are some big ones around Perth now in full flower. My sister has a large male one in Huntingdale. She has no room for another to try and get viable seed from.

UWA is meant to have some massive Kentias and old H belmoreana. I always meant to get out there and take a look when I lived in Perth, but never got around too it.

Contact them

They are palm and cycad society in East Australia

I think there is a tropical plant society in Sydney that incorporates palms. Not sure if there is a NSW chapter of PACSOA. PACSOA is based in Brisbane. Many of the guys from Oz on here are PACSOA members.

Tyrone, did you find some mature majestic palm within perth?

I have one at my Perth house. Probably 5m or more of clear trunk, about 70cm diameter at the base. Hasn't flowered yet. You won't find too many good ones in Perth due to the sand. They really require rich wet mucky soil to do well. Most in Perth are stunted, yellow and deficient. My sister in Huntingdale has 3 about half the size of mine but they're all flowering. The ones along the coast in Perth look particularly tragic. Any growing in the foothills around Armadale are in red gravelly loamy clay soil and they tend to grow better there than on the coastal plain. They're the perfect palm if you have a boggy swampy bit of land or a stream flowing through your property. When you see pictures of them growing in rivers in Madagascar it all makes sense.

If you're talking about the palms at Palm City, yes I've heard Palm City is gone now and the land has been developed. They had some large foxtails in the ground there as well as Ravenea. I have plants grown from those Ravenea. One of the guys let me take a hand full of seed a few years ago.
