I planted these out back in late 2009 from 1 gal. (3.78 liter) pots as Areca caliso and now that they have been flowering and fruiting, they are obviously not A. caliso, but more likely Areca ipot.

No matter, they are great little palms. Always showy, clean, easy care, and great understory palms. The fruit is set high and tight and is now close to ripe.

Here are a few photos over the last few months showing the progression of fruit development.

    I agree with the others, it's a nice looking palm, can fit into almost anybody's landscape, but their extremely hard to come by. Pretty much unavailable here in south Florida. Thanks!

    Great palm there Tim! Too bad it was not A. caliso as they are even more uncommon. I've killed both, I think my calcareous soil is the culprit.

    Aloha Moose, this is such a great little palm, I've not thought much of A. caliso anymore, having plenty of Areca species already. 

    Have A. catechu, guppyana, catechu 'Alba', catechu dwarf, oxycarpa, macrocalyx, triandra, and vestiaria. 

    Here's an update photo, they have grown quite a bit in the last couple of years.

    Amazingly cool palms and the fruits look like ornaments! Love the way they hang so tight on the trunk! :wub:

    Thanks Lisa, until the seed falls off, you almost have to use a crow bar to get them loose.
