Hi Community it's great to be back online on this great forum. In the past day I've gotten a gift from a wonderful cousin, and oh my gosh he gave me an Encyclopedia of Cultivated Palms book the updated one I was so happy and reading it lol but anywhoo I'm making this post because I want to germinate a palm seed from Syagrus Rommanzofiana (Queen Palm) I've germinated many Palm seeds before including the queen Palm but it didn't survived unfortunately cause of its roots but I don't know what exactly happened it could be early transplant by accident. I tired several times to germinate a queen Palm seed but of course I need to be patient for months and I am trying to germinate one using natural ways like outside of my patio I have a small to medium container where I keep my sphagnum moss in for my orchid planting. I decided to put the seed embedded in the moss thinking this might be a perfect condition because it is very humid, sunny hot here in Florida. I keep the moss moist for speed results. This is just another technique I made up you may have not heard of before. I am really desperate for that seed(s) to germinate (I might germinate more if I feel like it) so yep any great help will be perfect and I thank you!

My problem is to stop them from germinating. They are popping up everywhere.

I pull them out of the mulch and two weeks later they have been replaced by more

My problem too. My most robust queen produces so much seed that sprouted seeds become ground cover. Emmanuel, have you tried just sowing seed right on the ground and covering it with about an inch of light soil or mulch and keeping it moist?

I also have enormous difficulty to bring to germination Syagrus and Butia seeds of any kind in an artificial enviroment. Hence romanzoffianian seeds are also included in my list of impossible!

I didn’t have any problems with germinating S. romanzoffiana here in Germany inside a living room (not a greenhouse). Without any special treatment germinated already 43 of 70 seeds within 4 months in 1982. Because these queens grew too fast for indoor use, I afterwards never tried to grow this species any more. (Especially in hydroculture the growth was twice as fast as in normal soil.)

I had all my queens taken out months ago (fusiarium wilt) and seeds are still coming up relentlessly. I suggest you start them in a deep pot of well-draining mix (they put out long radicles). Place pot in dappled shade and let heat and summer rain work their magic. If seeds are fresh you won't have to wait long.

I have read every response and thanks for letting me know of everyone's experiences. Sorry for the late response but thanks everyone. But wow I never knew how much easy and invasive this palm species is.

I must say it's very easy for nature to germinate them. No wonder it's invasive from what I've heard of.
