Hello,

I will be moving and need to transplant some palms in my yard. I have Wodyetia X Veitchia, Foxtail, Teddy Bear, Beccariophoenix, pseudophoenix sargentii (navasana), many roystoneas, syagrus sancona, etc. Most are under 5 feet tall and some have started to trunk. I have one Roystonea that is 15 feet and a 7 foot foxtail but not sure I can really move those and not kill them so I may leave them, sad to say.

Now the hard part...I have large buckets to transplant in but anyone have any advice as far as my anticipated success rate? I'll keep them in shade in buckets until I can plant them in the ground again not ideal but it is what it is. I have mangos and avocados etc and problem is whoever buys my house will most likely kill all these things anyway and I would at least like a shot at saving them.

Thank you for any advice you have. Such a shame to do it but if I can without killing all of them I hope to do so. I need to move to a larger house for my family so I have no choice in this.

Thanks again,

Sean

Under 5 feet tall,I think most of those are easy digs.(Beccariophoenix might be the exception)

I would shoot for a 7 gallon size rootball going into 15 gallon size pots and I don't think you'll have any trouble. The 7 foot foxtail should be easy too. You might want to cut your circles around them ASAP (root pruning) and pot them up in July if you have the time.I'm betting though that most would probably survive just fine if you dug and potted them tomorrow and kept them moist in the shade.Be sure that the sun doesn't shine on the pots or the roots will get cooked.Definitely shade the pots with other pots,or some sun blocking structure.

If you post some pictures I'll be able to give you some advice... just kidding I have no experience in transplanting palm trees, I just really wanted to see a pic of your foxylady and teddy bear growing in Phoenix.
