We'll have to plant this Licuala somewhere, I wonder in which place…half shade?

Please , show your 'Mapu'

Very nice Philippe, I'll take a pic of mine later today mate

Hi Philippe!

These are beautiful palms and I have one that I am afraid to put in the ground. I have babied it in a pot for years and think it will die as soon as it gets into my sandy soil.

Absolutely beautiful! I have some but they are strap seedlings and not much to take a pic of.

I am afraid too, Peter, even if we have a soil in half shade of the mangusteen orchard where Licuala grandis seed himself freely. (stream bank soil)

We'll see but the biggest dangers are porcupines and wild boars.

Philippe,

I cannot post a picture of ours because yours are so much more stunning!

After keeping my L. 'mapu' in a pot for about 4 years, I reluctantly planted it -- the roots kept venturing out of the bottom of the fairly large pot. It seems to be doing all right, last I saw, but is not nearly so beautiful as Philippe's specimen. I put it in a semi-shady area where it won't get too much direct sun, mostly dappled light. Keeping my fingers crossed, as I hear they are touchy palms.

Those are gorgeous, Bill. Thanks for all the information about how you prepped for them. We will follow it if and when we have the courage to put ours in the ground.

Do you have any pictures from your trip to Thailand you can share? Perhaps you've already posted some and I missed them.
