Out of 9 c. plumosas, ONE has showed as a female. I've been shaking male flower polen on the female flowers- but I don't know. Is there a trick to any of this?

Hello

I would try using a paintbrush to facilitate pollination maybe that should work . Not many bother with multiple Chameadoreas and some species are becoming rare as a result .

From what i can see your garden looks really nice - can you show us some more pictures . Dana point like San Clemente has a perfect mild climate for Hedyscepe ,Rhopalostylis and New Caledonian palms as i have visited two really nice collection there in 2013 .

You need to apply pollen at female anthesis. I am no expert but the female flowers kinda "stick their tongues out" when ready. Insects will take an interest too as this is when they produce nectar. Pollen can be stored if need be. I got some seed once on plumosa but it failed to reach maturity. I think it may be a little trickier than other sp. in this genus. Good luck!

cheers

I have a male n female in in same planter and after 4 years of producing inflos seed finally took its been 2 months since seed was placed in warming pad with no luck yet. all the previous seed that was aborted only reached the size if a small pea theses seeds got around the size of a small grape and only maybe 20% of the seeds on inflo matured, good luck n keep trying this small palm is in great demand for its speed in growth and good looks.

It's frustrating to know that Plumosas are in great demand, then to see them flower, and nothing fruit! I really want to find a way to get these plumosas to seed . . .anyway . thanks for all the input. I'll try everything!

In the meantime-

For your viewing pleasure . . .here's my "Majai" row . I call it the Majai . .because these three Palms need to grow to protect the beauty in my yard from the ugly structure next door! *I have a very small yard/lot*- It s an urban thing.

My Chamaedorea plummosa are quite tall and planted close together. I tried climbing a ladder and tying the male and female flowers together as I never had any seed before. I still only ended up with about six seeds.
