Cindy,

Nice to see your posts on PT :)

Last week we just planted 2 Metroxylon vitiense seedlings in Doranakanda gardens, we'll see….

Is vitiense as beautiful as your salomonense? How old is your monster?

BTW: Do you grow Clinostigma species too? (we try in Doranakanda, we'll see…)

I don't know how old this one is since it was trunking when I first saw it seven years ago. However I will ask the grower since she is down the street and let you know!

Yes I do have Clinostigma samoense as I just saw it an hour ago. I will take a photo soon and you can see it. It was planted April 2009 so is not as tiny as most that I planted.

My inventory notes say I have Clinostigma harlandii but I didn't climb to that area today. I will check it out also and post a photo if it's alive from August 2013 planted as a seedling.

I really can't compare mine with viitiense as I don't grow that one.

Oh, thanks so much for posting all your wonderful photos! I always enjoy them.

Sherry says my Metroxylon was planted in 1999 or 2000.

Lovely update Cindy, I wondered when you would show your avatar palm again, your Metroxylon is looking very Stately and Solid and you are looking younger and fitter :)

Sure. I will use my camera which is not part of a cell phone and send them larger when I can. I have an eye fi camera card which is supposed to transfer photos from my camera to my iPhone without wi fi but I haven't gotten it working yet. I finally had some help to safely remove some old fronds but still a tough shady vertical area to photograph.

Thanks a bunch Cindy, we have very few photos of this palm species, it'll be much appreciated, Ed

Hi there. Very nice photo! I am also very interested in Metroxylon. I planted a Vitiense in the ground last May and the thing has tripled in size. It is easily one of the fastest palms I've ever grown.

I've actually offered my rental homes to anybody who can source Amicorium or Solomonense seed but I received no response. I guess seed is rather scarce and infrequent and many of the Solomonense seed I see are in Australian gardens.

Sure is a neat looking palm! I love the striations in the petiole base--I imagine spinning the whole palm could cause a bit of hypnosis...

Philippe, see my separate post on Clinostigma samoense. I'm afraid my only tiny Clinostigma harlandii was crushed under a fallen tree so it will go back on my wish list.

Here's another cell phone quality photo. I took more with my other camera to post later.

I just can't walk near this one without taking a portrait no matter how bad the lighting!post-4111-0-16947300-1421783895_thumb.jp

Cindy, is your Portlandia planted in PR?

No one cares about your current yard temperature 🙃

Many thanks Cindy for your beautiful pics and interesting comments.

Do you grow Clinostigma or other species mostly from seeds or are lucky enough to get seedlings from a famous US palm-nursery?

Kindest regards

Philppe

I was lucky enough to buy a small plant in the U.S.

I enjoy starting seeds but if I can buy a plant in my budget that is small enough to transport it is much faster!
