hard freeze warning......

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

the arctic weather event for the central US has become worse than anticipated today.

many areas will see weather events which would be considered severe even if they occurred in mid January.

many areas in Texas and surrounding states will experience hard freezes over night that could kill unprotected palms.

take precautions now to protect any sensitive plants

(one complex factor for Texas will be cloud cover tonight.-

in the event of a clear skys there will be a very damaging deep freeze)

All the leaves are brown and the sky is gray.

I've been for a walk on a winter's day.

I'd be safe and warm if I was in L.A.;

California dreamin' on such a winter's day.

Stopped in to a church I passed along the way.

Well I got down on my knees and I pretend to pray.

You know the preacher liked the cold;

He knows I'm gonna stay.

California dreamin' on such a winter's day.

All the leaves are brown and the sky is gray.

I've been for a walk on a winter's day.

If I didn't tell her I could leave today;

California dreamin' on such a winter's day.

You don't have to live in California, so that you do not see brown leaves. JUST PLANT HARDY PALMS FOR YOUR AREA :)

This is true Rafa! Also here we have had hail in the city center for the second time this fall. According to reports from the northern suburbs hail did have some respectful size! Very rare occasion for my area this time year. Maybe a bad omen for the winter to come? :crying:

Here in Dubrovnik ( Dalmatia, Croatia ), we are still quite warm, fortunately. 21+°C today in shade.

21°C would be 70 degrees Fahrenheit.

Besides also gray sky does not bother me to a certain extent. As said already cloudy sky keeps temps in winter higher and it means

also higher rain probability and rain means further filled water dams for the next summer! But white sky does really scare the s* out of me!

They said 32 here, but I see no sign of it, and more importantly, no frost.

I just got back from most of a week in Denver area of Colorado... -12F on my last night there.... just a reminder why I moved here!

Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

Well, I guess it did get to 32 because I just checks the tomatoes and the leaves are fried top to bottom.

Yes, Denver has been frigid. I hope to be in Socal in a year or so, when I retire. San Marcos/Esco./

The weather here can turn on a nickel (and give you some change). 64 one day and 16 the next.

Look at that -14 for Denver, that suuuuuuuuuuucks, interestingly, Salt Lake didn't get nearly that cold and it isn't all that far away and not much lower in elevation, must have more protection from the mountains.

Corpus Christi, TX, near salt water, zone 9b/10a! Except when it isn't and everything gets nuked.

I must admit that this topic in the "Discussing Palm Trees Worldwide" section got my attention. It seemed warm here today but I was forced to check into Weather Underground. The high here was 82 F. and we bottomed out at 65 F. The ten day forecast shows the possibility that we could drop all the way down to 60 F. You now have over 1,000,000 Coconut Palms in South Florida shaking in their boots. You see, they do not follow many topics but they do follow "Discussing Palms Trees Worldwide" closely. You have caused them great concern and alarm.

They tend to gloss over the topic entitled "Weather" but you have placed them now on deathcon 3 alert. All of this is so needless. They would be happy as clams if you had posted this vignette in "Weather" where it would have gone widely unnoticed and would have not created the gigantic fear and loathing that you did by shaking it up in this topic. The humanity.
