Palms of My Trip to The Bahamas!

Featured Replies

Recently I had the opportunity to take a Disney cruise to the Bahamas, this was my first cruise of any kind and also was my first experience in a truly tropical climate (although the islands are actually outside the tropics). The trip was fantastic and I really enjoyed the tropical material even though none of the stops we made would be known for their exceptional palm diversity. Also, I was the only one who was really interested in palms so since nobody else really cared I didn't get either the quantity or quality of shots that I would have liked to, I'm sure some of you have experienced similar things while traveling with family. Actually, I was just traveling with my two oldest children with all of my wife's family while she stayed on shore with our new 6 week old baby. We did not schedule this trip, my wife's aunt did before anybody knew we would be having a brand new baby

We'll start with this queen at my in-law's house in Cocoa, Fl, I always thought this was a very nice specimen, if only all queens looked like this one.

Kids drinking out of a fresh coconut, we have gave it back to girl that ran the cart after and she cut it open and scooped out the flesh for us, so much better than old, dry, supermarket coconut

Thrinax is native to the Bahamas, I wish I could have explored around the island a little more and found some palms in habitat, of course everything I took photos of was planted, or maybe transplanted for the species that might be native to the island, obviously the coconuts and most of the others are introduced.
