I am planning to plant 3 or 4 Licuala mapu in the ground. How far apart should I space them?

I imagine that once they are in the ground there is no way to move them after this!

Gene, such problems! :) I think a grouping of 4-5' from each other should look good. I'm sure they'll look great once planted and hope you'll post a picture. Your garden has always looked great before when you shared some pic's before.

The first one they are about 3 feet apart and the second they are a little over 2 feet.

Great pics Bill :greenthumb:

Mine are grouped three each and probably too close together at about two feet apart. Bill, yours look wonderful!

I can't access my photos as I'm still in Florida on the last day of a palm adventure including new treasures from the famous Searle sale. Sorry to digress and hope for more mapu ( or whatever the new name is) photos!

I planted them about 3.5 feet apart. The hole on the right was too close I think so we didn't put a plant there yet

We break the clay pot's bottom (it's an artform), Then we break the sides and slowly slide them out.

One thing I am planning to do is add a lot of "non green" plants around these Licuala mapu to help them visually stand out.

I have a heavily variegated bamboo at the back and I am planting a lot of Yellow leaf (the new leaves at least) philodendrons around them like ground covers.

If I end up with an all green planting I don't think I can fully appreciate the L. Mapus

Since Jeff likes to see the rest of the garden (and I took a bunch of pictures anyway) , I'll just post them here anyway even if it's off topic already

Now that the rainy season is beginning to let up a bit we made some alterations. For those of you who remember old pictures of my garden updates-- that brown patch use to be a plant bed.

Now it's a more open layout and I get to show off the dwarf Areca Catechu better

Lots of Agleonemas-- like the philodendrons, I just snap off the tops and stick them in the ground.

Like what I did with the Mapus, we planted a lot of non-green plants around these Dypsis brevacaulis to help them stand out visually. You have some white and yellow agleonemas, yellow philodendrons and pink/purple calatheas

Looks incredible.

With a tin cup for a chalice

Fill it up with good red wine,

And I'm-a chewin' on a honeysuckle vine.
