Pseudopanax laetus

Featured Replies

So I got a Pseudopanax laetus in the ground and I just can’t believe that Monrovia is saying this very tropical looking shrub is hardy to zone 7, any thought on this…here’s their website….http://www.monrovia.com/plant-catalog/plants/3633/kiwi-gem-shrub-panax/

My plant is growing in mostly shade.

I doubt it's hardy to 0F. Maybe root hardy? I believe foliage was damaged at the SF Botanical Garden in 1990, when temperatures dipped deep into the 20s F for a week. Such a pretty plant, seemingly carefree about our chilly summers and the most tropical-looking of all the NZ aralias.

Thats what I was afraid of low 20’sF. Oh well hopefully I can enjoy this shrub for a few years, Thanks for your honest opionin Jason. BTW the shrub I got from you a few years ago is blooming nicely this spring and summer. Love this plant, I’m going to get a variegated one next. Thanks for your help.

Nice ! I ordered some P. ferox. Those will be my first P's - not sure they are even similar to this one. A variegated one exists? I'm sure it's pretty!
