Anyone have experiences in using the Hydrofarm 64060 for germinating palm seeds? I see it mostly being used for germinating flowers and vegetables, but no palms. I pulled the trigger a few days ago and bought one at a good price. If the box itself doesn't work well, I'll at least have the heating pad. I'm just worried the heating pad wont get hot enough. I got a bit worn out with the baggie method and keeping heat lamps on them 24/7. I Wanted to get something a little more consolidated and neat, all the while using a little less electricity (hopefully). Here's the link to the products website for more information about it: http://www.hydrofarm.com/product.php?itemid=1899

heating mat and baggies is the easiest way.

Summer is coming on so lack of heat shouldn't be a provlem. I move my baggies into the garage for a 6-month nuking.

Also, that tray is too shallow for germinating palm seeds. Cells should be 6+" deep.

When I started I used heat matts and rotted a lot of seed. I never use them now and get good results. Im sure they can be helpful and work for some people. Starting out I would recommend you don't use them.

What do you use now, turfpro?

Thanks for the insight everyone. I did leave several of my baggies outside, but again came another cold spell from our neighbors up north :indifferent:

Perhaps I'll use a different tray, or use some small pots/planters that allow for a deeper depth that'll also fit in the 7 inch dome.
