Wow troy, your garden is starting to kick into big gears. Looks like your garden is well on its way to become the "Darold Petty garden of the Southern hemisphere." :)

It certainly has adjusted well and is looking great. This is a good reminder for me to be patient with my newly planted palms.

Thank you Axel that is a big compliment ! I wish LOL

No secret that i find Darold's garden fascinating with the mix of Rhopalostylis , Hedyscepe , Ceroxylon, Dypsis baroni , Chameadorea , all that seem to be growing well for me so far !

Thanks Randy , Steve and everyone ! i have 2 smaller ones that should be that size in four years .

BTW the small palm in the right hand corner of the first picture next to the blood leaf plant is a very healthy Lepidorrachis moreana !

Thanks Ben

I have used a lot of good ideas on planting soil prep and garden design from my USA (california ) palm growing counterparts !

I only grow palms that are look good growing in my cool oceanic climate and as much as i would love to grow the big Dypsis and the amazing array of New Caledonian palms i know that to have a sickly yellow thing in the garden just to say i have it in my collection just isn't worthwhile .

All my palms are planted in raised beds that are made from concreted granite boulders that I have collected and cemented over 700 that i have individually hauled up a steep bank on my mate's property over 500 m ( not fun let me tell you LOL :mrlooney: .

My native soil is deep sandy loam that i have thoroughly amended with compost & sheep manure decomposed pea. straw and dynamic lifter pellets . I always mulch heavily and sprinkle blood-meal through the mulch to counteract and nitrogen used up by the wood chips . I have added about 10,000 worms to my planter beds that i have grown up in my bunnings worm farm .

As far as fertilizer i use Nutricote total 180 day and every second week i mix seasol ( liquid kelp) powerfeed ( liquid fishmeal) and a liquid humic acid called gogo juice into watering cans and give the palms a boost ! Maybe i overdo it with all these things but most palms have responded very well to this organic / combo !

Plenty of room to stay Ben if you and the wifey decide to come down !

cheers Troy :greenthumb:

Looking good Troy! I planted one the size yours is now approx. 4 years ago, it now has 24 rings of trunk on it.

I will be in Tassie for my Mums 60th towards the end of July and I will try to get down to Hobart.
