Palm Talk Members NOT at the Biennial?

Recommended Posts

I was unable to attend the Biennial, and was wondering if there are going to be any non attendees informally meeting the attendees at the hotel or Jeff Searle's place or some other place? Maybe after hours or before hours?

Any thoughts, I would love to hear them.

so little time.

Jerry,

I think you have a valid interest / concern. I can't speak for everyone, but I'm sure for those that did not pay to attend the biennial, are more than welcome to roam around in say, Fairchild Tropical Gardens. it's a public garden. But maybe the Biennial committee can come here and suggest what the "do's and don't's are. Scott, Ray, Paul?

Thanks Jeff.

I don't want to barge in unpaid to the planned events but it would be fun to see some new people and meet old friends sometime over the week or so.

Any input from the committee on the subject?

Unfortunately I can't take time off work either but would like to see some of the Aussies...Carlo... the Cali folks I have yet to meet.

I too find it clumsy to show up uninvited & hope for a solution.

William,

I would hope your kidding some with your choice of words. Attending an IPS Biennial has nothing to do with being uppity. Andrea and I only attend when times are good and when it was held in Brazil, we did not go because financially times were not the best.

Walking through the bush at times, eating box lunches ( and worrying how the mayo was on your sandwich ), dealing with leeches, mosquitos, snakes, flies in your food, an occasional bout with diarrhea OR sitting next to somebody on the bus that has diarrhea, and not to mention driving down the highway after leaving the hotel in the morning, only to pull over and wait 45 minutes for the one person that arrived late and missed the bus! And then there's the chance of rain and yes, many times getting saturated and one time loosing our camera in the backpack because it filled up with water! If you think this is in any way uppity, maybe you should consider joining us sometime.

I wouldn't trade it for anything.......

I think the best time to join up with the Biennial is during the last Saturday, when we will all be at MBC. I believe there is a cover fee which will include the costs of lunch. This will not only get you into MBC but you will also be able to talk to any and all of the Biennial attendees.

The best time may be the Key West portion of the trip when there is a day off.

Sorry...but I see this as a waste of time....and probably the main reason I am not attending.

Gosh, I thought it was. More official people than me, told me about it...

I am still holding my breath waiting on the official response to this. Not likely I think, or it would have happened already.

The committee peeps are working to get prices for 2 specific events so locals can join in the fun. Searle barbecue is one, not sure what the other will be.

We are getting close to the date. Any news?

I know that Montgomery wanted to invite the SFPS members but I never heard more about it.
