Cryosophila sp. Why wont they germinate? UGH

Featured Replies

I purchased some Cryosophila sp. back in November. I did the same to these as all my other seeds. They get washed and a 10 min bleach or peroxide bath. Then placed in a bagged after 24-48 hours of soaking with vermiculite. These started getting mold on them, so I removed them from the baggies, washed them really well and packed them back in a new bag. The medium was placed in the microwave to get rid of any bacteria and the seeds were placed on top of my dvr for heat. Now the same thing has happened again, they stink and have yucky stuff on them. I did not add any water to the baggie and they were not very wet. I would say just the perfect dampness as you would for any other seeds. So I cannot figure out why I am getting this moldy junk. I was just going to put them in a pot outside in shallow dirt, is that a good idea?

This is my favorite palm and I cannot get one to germinate to save my life. What am I doing wrong?

Btw I am about to buy some Cryosophila stauracantha seeds so I don't want to be going through the same thing with those.

Thanks!

Nothing, when seeds mold right away and then continue molding after you clean them they are bad to begin with. They are molding from the inside out. Simply cut one or two open to confirm. The embryo's are easy to find if they are good. A nice milky white, near the outside of the seed. If they are bad, you will not see that, only brown.
