We had them in La Habra.

Keep your receipts!

It will be lovely while it lasts . . . . (alas) in my experience anyway.

(Hope you prove me wrong, of course! :))

Doubtful. Those are shipped out straight from the Islands or heated greenhouses.

Great score!!! How tall is it?

It took 5 years for ours to reach about 3/4 the size of yours. Many people here find them too common to plant, but we love ours. We bought them after seeing a large triple planting of them and wanted to do that ourselves. Unfortunately we did not plant them closely enough together to get the same effect but they do lean away from each other and look pretty good that way.

It has a good 2 ft of clean trunk with an overall height of 6ft , I planted it in full sun on a hill up high so it is getting every chance it can get to survive ... But it is nice to have a 1 yr warranty hahah

I've raised some to get large, only to have them die in one cold winter. Alas! They are so cool.

I'm rooting for you, and, if you do a little witchcraft, so be it! :)

1,500 feet elevation in Hawaii is going to slow this thing down considerably. Just had this conversation with Jeff Marcus, he lives at 1,600 feet and his nursery and collection is at 700 feet. He sees twice the speed at the nursery compared to his house. But at 1,500 feet you can grow ceroxylon over there. :)

I told that same thing to someone that planted 4 in the front yard down the hill from you Dave.

I saw a neighbor had planted one in his front yard earlier this winter which I figured was destined to die.... little did I know we would have the mildest winter EVER! Still growing and looking good

On a side note, I think these WILL grow in certain spots in So Cal, but its first winter or two getting established is the hardest time. Matty is spot on.

Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

I saw a whole batch of bottle palms at my local home depot today. They were in 3 gallons, but really really fat at the base, perfect for planting out. I was thinking of getting this guy a little brother to plant next to him.

Believe it or not one showed up here a few years ago.

It was beautiful. I was pretending it was a long shot but really

I figured if someone was going to kill it it might as well be me.

My bottle started out as one of those 3 gallon HD specials and immediately went into the ground in the Arizona desert. 13 years later,it now has about 3 feet of trunk and has done very well for me.

Surprising but it has never given me any trouble.I've had much more effort in establishing a spindle palm and finally had success by growing my own from seed.Several bought specimans never lasted more than 2 years each.
