More Changes at PalmTalk

IPS has been working on the business end of PalmTalk for a long time trying to make sure it operates smoothly and efficiently. The moderator had been working during this time trying to iron out a proper business contract. As I understand it a new contract has been drawn up but I have not seen it. Is anyone else curious about seeing it?

IPS, as I understand it, now has a more firm grip on PalmTalk and this is a good thing. We want PalmTalk to be secure and in place forever. It may take some time to figure out exactly what we have gotten ourselves into but if we could all understand the contract it may give us some information so we can help if needed.

I hope we can all read the contract if we have time and energy to do so and that if we can help in any way that would be terrific.

I am afraid...

Being quite a new member (only 13 months since my first post, now 1670 active posts), I wonder how quiet and lovely Palmtalk life could have been since 2006 when I see old threads (thanks to some bumping or search engine) and what has changed when I see older and enthusiast member having 16'375 active posts and more than 220 reputation points becoming so upset and sad in a recent time.

I wish the camaraderie Ken mentioned last year will live and be shared by the IPS BOD which I feel more and more like a super-governement which strong methods....
See what I am not writing, so this post can hope to stay alive.

Yours faithfully.

Ken,

The WebAdmin contract has next to nothing to do with how PalmTalk will be run - that is - such things as specific IPS policies, allowable content, and what form it will take are not delineated in this contract - only that I will uphold whatever those things are to be.

It is only concerned with things like lines of communication, compensation, and what responsibilities I have if I choose to step down, or how termination of the contract would take place. It also addresses, along with other important considerations, liabilities relating to data lose, copyrights, accuracy, security, etc.

How I am directed to actually manage the site is not mentioned in this contract - instead, as I understand it, this direction will come from the Executive Committee, or a vote of the entire BOD from time to time - and relayed to me through a designated representative. And I will administer/moderate to those requirements as best I can.

Thanks to those of you who help make this a fun and friendly forum.

Dean,

I know you are a honorable, respectable and respected man. I know you mean well, and would not be the proper person to post a copy of the contract anyway, but with all due respect, some of us, admittedly maybe only a very few of us would rather read things directly rather than have them interpreted to us.

The closed off corporate nature in which IPS is now being run is somewhat of a turn off for me, at least. IPS is a member based non-profit organization. It should be run with 100% visibility into its operations to its members, imho.

Your friend, who does not always agree with you, but always respects you,
