Tax Deductible Donations?

Recommended Posts

Posted

We did our end of the year tax deductible donations the last few days, we had some money earmarked for the IPS, but it doesn't seem possible. I see no info on palms.org for a donation button, and the PalmTalk button has no info about tax deductible donations.

Maybe the IPS could put a little effort into making it easier to receive donations in the future. I think it's gonna be too late for us for this year. The money is going to go elsewhere.

You could donate it to Change.org

Not sure how that works, but why can't you just use the Donate Button and claim it as deductible on your tax return since its a non-profit?

Thanks to those of you who help make this a fun and friendly forum.

Thinking of the Donate Button - a while back there was talk about being able to make sure a donation goes to PalmTalk. I don't recall the result and I don't want try to find it in the archives. Dean - is there a way to ensure that ? Is there a "Support PalmTalk" fund ?

Thanks in advance.

And then there's ole Searle Brothers Nursery looking for a little help. Lets see, a load of soil, some fertilizer, maybe some used pots, a couple of new batteries for one of the golf carts, well you get the idea. Please send all PM's to me. I promise I will accept the smallest of contributions and a personal, hand written thank you. :)

Jeff - I think the word "smallest" might get you really into hand writing Thank You notes........

There is no way to separate the funding. It all goes into the same piggy bank. There is a place on the form, after the donation is made, to specify that it was made with the "intention" to support PT - but I have no idea if it is actually tabulated, or if the donators notate it as such. And unfortunately there has never been a way devised, nor much effort expended, to find methods to track the full monetary value of PT through donations, new members, retained members, etc.

I did try to track some values when we did the fund raiser - exactly a year ago. It was very difficult for me to get the info and to translate any increased book sales, memberships, and donations. But my best accounting reached a value of close to $5000 using comparative analysis for the increases in book sales, notated donations, and donations made via the plant sale.

I just set up a $5 a month recurring payment through PayPal to PalmTalk. It is a nice chunk a year for PT, that won't be missed in the budget each month, and I certainly get more than $5 a month of enjoyment from PalmTalk. In the words of a S. Louisianan, Track Dat!
