Since the IPS is clearly demonstrating that they have little interest in properly evolving their online presence, and as Len pointed out, the IPS is apparently not all that interested in its membership at large, perhaps the time has come to find a new home.

Trying to control a large organization that isn't interested in us seems like a futile exercise. I am glad to cast my vote for the right people, but even that information hasn't been made available.

It seems the best alternative is to move to a decent forum that is very close to PalmTalk, and that is Palmpedia. I haven't tried it out yet, but I am going to now. I am going to start cross posting on both sites for a while to see how it feels. Perhaps if enough people do it, we will gain critical mass on Palmpedia and we can forget about PalmTalk. It seems a much easier thing to do as opposed to getting the IPS to change the way they do things. The former just involves signing up for an account with Palmpedia and starting to use it. The latter involves a bunch of politics which are going to be quite ugly.

The advantage of PalmPedia is that it can evolve forward without all the nasty politics that seem to be involved with all these types of plant organizations. And it's got a Wiki, which PalmTalk doesn't have.

Axel, if I nominated you, would you accept? You seem to have some great ideas how to make palmtalk better. I'm sure between you and Dean, it'd be fantastic.

Yes Axel! Get a PalmTalk grassroots growing to topple ivory towers!

Of course, I love PalmTalk and would love to do anything to save it. But I am also feeling not so optimistic having no visibility or contact with the people who run the IPS.

I understand your concern, but if you were on the BOD, then we'd have someone that'd be out here with IPS Palmtalk members. Your experience would be invaluable. Its time to expand the expertise of the IPS BOD.

There are 30 something members on the board. You'll need 10 to 15 more Axel's to add to the half dozen or so board members who are actually active on FB.

The financial and time commitment to being on the board is the biggest obstacle for most people to be active.

Palmpedia is a great sight. If IPS goes under, that will be the perfect place to pic up the pieces.

No you don't. Some pro PT BODs didn't go either. Look at Dave.

I registered on palmpedia today, so I will be there if something goes wrong here...

I've been "cross-pollinating" on Palmpedia for a few years. It's the same format, meaning that it's a forum, but the moderators are much more lax over there so not as much sensorship. The only reason that I've stayed with PalmTalk as my primary forum is because of the amount of users here makes it a fast and full forum. If these BODs don't lay off they are just going to push us all away and Palmpedia will gain critial mass, like Axel said, and then PalmTalk will cease to exist.

I am just pointing this out...I would go to palmpedia.

I really like Dean and Palmpedia, but it is a one-man show. FB is almost the same, from a management point of view. For longevity, there needs to be an organization behind it, and it must be a platform independent strategy, not a single person or platform (website.) With appropriate safeguards, I could totally see a CEA (Cooperative Endeavor Agreement) between IPS and Palmpedia (Dean) that would meet the needs of all. If minds are open, all things are possible.

Agree with you on being a loyal member here who does not want to see PT sink. Even so, I also contribute to Dave's Garden, Cloud Forest Café, and have PT on my personal FB page. Have been coasting around Xeric forums, and Palmpedia for the last couple years as well. Will soon be joining both, regardless of the outcome here. Love this forum and DON"T want to see it fade away.

Keith - again - and again with all due respect. I can think and chew gum at the same time. It has already been proposed. It was proposed 8 years ago. And it was left on the table at that time. And I just reminded them again that the option still exists.

You see, I think this would be better as a "one man show." The hours to run it would be drastically reduced. Immediate decisions - no hours of discussion for a simple change. None of this BOD crap. And it would be much more open and not worried about keeping everything absolutely squeaky clean and only palms all the time. A few co-mods and a self policing atmosphere could have things run smoothly in a fraction of the time it takes now. But somebody might see a naughty word, or somebody might stray off-topic, or somebody may show a sexy pic every once in a while. And IMO it wouldn't be the end of the world if it happened.

Thanks to those of you who help make this a fun and friendly forum.

Hey Burt - for the first time in a long time I am feeling somewhat optimistic. I sensed that the tide may have turned somewhat today. If I am correct, things may slowly improve, and a year or two from now we may surprise you and even myself. At least the seeds are there for some beneficial change. So hopefully we can earn your membership in the near future. :)

It almost is too. Ironically, it could be as accurately said, the Party Teas vs. the InfoPalmaSolipsists.....but saying it Wal's way won't put you on a gov watch list. :yay: Whoops, did I just get myself put on a gov watch list.....arg. I was kidding!

Here's all the best of the best wishes for the PT and IPS, all the very best!!

Keith,

That last sentence says it all. Big "If" and lots of closed minds = nothing gets done.

Now that the riot is over, we can all put out the fires, stop looting, and start the cleanup. Hopefully a few internet savy new board members will be voted in, and Dean working with the current BOD will even bring about some improvements on PalmTalk.

If every IPS member who read the recent posts just voted then it would be a big help.

I know it's awkward to have to use a stamp and the post office, but until it can change that's the way to do it.

Watch your Palms insert for a ballot.
