When I started my fall cleanup/re-organization of my back yard palm garden, I found these 3 Chamaedorea hooperiana outgrowing their 2g pots and near their shipping size limit. I already have 2 larger Cham hoopers starting to cluster so I want find these guys new homes so I don't keep cluttering my yard with potted palms.

Chamaedorea hooperiana hails from Veracruz, Mexico in a shrinking rainforest at 3000-5000' elevation. According to Encyclopedia of Cultivated Palms, it was named for Louis Hooper, who grew it for years in La Habra, CA. Its stems can reach 12' tall and clusters reach 12' wide. It is said to not be cold tolerant. I left my palms under canopy year round and they did well. However, my ultimate lows last winter did not fall below 40F which is unusual. The encyclopedia said this species does well in a Mediterranean climate, i.e., Cali, so when I got these seeds from another PalmTalker, I figured my ferocious heat/humidity would doom the seedlings. Well, lo and behold, this species is happy, beautiful and fast-growing in SW FL as long as it has bountiful shade and water. Palms for sale have not yet begun to cluster.

Now the particulars:

Cost: $15.00 per palm

Shipping: $11.25 each to the West Coast, $9.00 each to the rest of the continental US

No shipping to HI. No shipping outside the U.S.

I prefer to ship only on Mon., Tues. or Wed.

Each palm will be shipped in a large Priority Mail tube. Please note: Longest fronds may be too tall for the tube. I will make every effort to gently fold/tuck them into the box. But, if necessary, I may have to trim the ends of those fronds. If the prospect of trimmed fronds causes you to have an anxiety attack, reconsider your purchase. This species quickly outgrows such indignities, but perhaps your psyche may not.

Payment via Paypal. PM me if you are interested in one of these lovelies.

I purchased these palms from Meg. They were bare rooted, wrapped in sphagnum moss about the roots, wrapped with paper towels about the moss, wrapped with saran about the paper, wrapped with aluminum foil about the saran. The top growth was wrapped with newspaper.

Shipped on Monday from Florida they arrived Wednesday in California in perfect condition!

Thanks, Meg, for such an excellent deal !!
