I met Loxococcus rupicola at home

Featured Replies

Under heavy rain, deep in the jungle, after having crossed furious stream by walking on two Areca trunks (thank you Areca catechu for making the bridge) we met Loxococcus in villagers's home garden.

Floowing the tradition, villagers use Loxococcus flowers for worshiping Gods, either Lord Buddha or other hindu Gods.
We were close to the pilgrims way to Adam's peak.

Sorry for the quality of the pics, I was worrying my camera wasn't waterproof!

Jungle Paradise in Sri Lanka

Great Philippe! I always enjoy watching pictures from SL. Are Loxococcus rare palms there?

Wow. Such a cool palm. What height are those if you had to guess? I have a few seedlings that are placed so they don't obscure a view at 20 feet but those look much taller.

What an adventurous life you lead, from the elegant civility of Raffles Hotel in Singapore to the jungle village! Thanks for posting the photos, they are amazing!

Thank you Jason, Kim and Milos,

These Loxococcus are the highest I have seen in gardens, They were around 6 to 8 m high.
We got the flower from the villager who climbed on the tree (the same way they climb on coconut trees or Areca, but the trunk is very thin) and gave it to us like offerings.

Very respectfully, we have been sorry that the flower has been removed, but we took it as a very valuable gift It's why I took pictures of it; we can understand why people are using this flower as offerings in temples; such a beautiful red color!

Villagers told me they know a place in the rainforest where there is only Loxococcus, old and young palms ! Next time!

Wow, how fun, Do you know if the mature palms at that height still have the beautiful color to the new leaf??

AYUBOHAN Colin,

Yes, they do have this purple-bluish color, but last day, no new leaf and too much rain!

(so much rain that the leeches couldn't swim on the streams which covered the paths in the mountains).
