Yes, mahajanga is similar, although it should clump a little bit.

Here's a pic of the D. madagascarensis, in the lower left hand corner, when it was planted in Spring of '08. It was so stretched out that it burnt really bad and the leaves were bent over by the wind, but it pulled through.

Mighty fine looking Matty. Cannot wait until mine get that big. They always remind me of a skinny Triangle.

another palm on my list

very impressive growth after 5 years.

slowly aclimatized to sun/full sun?

thanx.

Depends on the species, but for sun lovers like D. Mad I just throw them out there and let them burn. My garden looked like someone took a blowtorch to it for a couple of years in the beginning

I was going to take a couple of pictures but I have a smaller Archie alex and the older fronds are burnt to a crisp and only half of the older fronds remain, same goes for a pair of Howeas. the new fronds are looking nice though, and last frond that opened on both of them only have one very small bleach mark on each and they went through the heatwave a couple weeks back without a hitch. i just don't have the patience to move plants from a 75% shaded area to a 25% then a scattered light spot. i'm starting to take better care of my seedlings and putting them right under the only good size tree in the yard or putting them in an area that only gets morning sun.

That looks great Matty, please consider posting in other places.

Happy Gardening

Cheers,

Nice tree Matty, does it show any pink when the new spear comes out? or all green, thanks, Ed

Good looking specimen. The jungle is trying to kidnap the trio I have in the lower half of the garden.
