Hi, could you tell me how large the diameter of the trunk is?

Hi, could you tell me how large the diameter of the trunk is?

You got me wondering so I took a measuring tape and went over there. About 2.5' at the level of my chest. Almost 3' at the waist level. Looking up about 2' at the roof gutter level and all the way up. About 4' at the base and over 5' with the root boss.

The glass part of the coach light hanging on the garage wall next to the palm is about a foot for comparison.

Hi, could you tell me how large the diameter of the trunk is?

Yup Kenny, its a huge palm... Just imagine how much room it takes up when the crown is at ground level. this is a biggie... it'll swallow up a lot of space before it trunks...

Thanks! couldn't have asked for a better measurement description... makes me think I should move the one I want to plant a bit further away from the walls to give it adequate room to expand even though it'll take many years before it gets to that size

sometimes things don't seem that large until numbers are thrown out there. I was pretty set on having a bizzie in the yard BUT knowing it's going to get the size that it will sometimes I think it might not be the best idea afterall. it might not be too bad if I didn't want to "lush" out the yard and use the bizzie instead of an oak tree or something as the main tree in the yard but thinking about the spread of the leaves it might end up taking up the entire lower portion of my yard

Yup, and its so big that, up close, it will block the view of most other palms in your yard that are around it, and a lot can be behind it as you can see. And the leaflet tips are rigid they are not flexible. I got poked in the cheek once, I learned respect and was glad it wasn't an eye. Where you live in 10a/b you can grow scores of great palms that aren't so huge, palms with colorful trunks and gorgeous crownshafts. When I designed my yard, I didn't want anything big up close near the gathering areas for that reason. I have a good sized yard and even then I put the bizzies at the edge away from my gathering areas. these are things you learn, often by making mistakes the first time around, LOL! I have neighbors who put the trunk of a 15 gallon within 5' of their walkway and front door area, LOL. Their front porch will be swallowed up in a couple years...
