Randy (yachtingone ) and I roared up the coast HWY in Dooms Dave's Caddy of doom to check out the palms at the Santa Barbara courthouse .

Santa Barbara is a beautiful beach city that is nestled between rugged coastal mountains and the beach .

The Howea forsteriana surrounding the courthouse were some of the tallest i have ever seen

Trithinax acanthocoma

There were a few Hedyscepe under the Howea's this one was a bit yellow though .

Very old specimens of Rhopalostylis sapida on the left and R . baueri on the right !

IMG_3734.jpg

The sapida had an extremely thin trunk and was curved in such a way that it touched the baueri .

The interior of the courthouse in nothing short of a master piece with Spanish/Moorish style architecture and elaberate tiles and murals.

Hi Troy!

How do the Hedyscepe handle full sun in Cali?

Do I have hope yet?

Posted

Hi Pete

O the coast as you will see in Subsequent post they handle full sun very well.

Further inland where warmer summer temps are in the 30's C like Matty's Gary Levine they are best in dappled shade !

Troy

So I am on the coast, 3k from the beach, we get the Fremantle Doctor in the arvo, I can plant under canopy also. So I think with plenty of water in the Summer I would have a good chance!
